Arriving at Docklands, we plotted a course through the hordes of die-hard AC/DC fans in black T-shirts and before long were being shown to our table inside the welcoming Steakhouse. Our waiter for the evening was the noteworthy Gareth whose knowledge and professionalism was astonishing. Be it assistance with the wine list or a crash course in beef marbling scores, Gareth had it covered.
For the opening act, my partner devoured half a dozen oysters Kilpatrick, whilst I went to work on a delicious plate of seared scallops served on witlof marmalade with a mandarin & fennel salad.
The focus at Steakhouse is on carefully sourced quality cuts of beef which are then aged and flame grilled with precision to your required doneness. With AC/DC in concert over the road, it seemed fitting to order the ‘Black Angus’ New York Strip Loin, which like the famous rocker was well aged, and on song. Full of flavour, and cooked medium rare as instructed, this was
a serious piece of meat weighing in at just below half a kilo.
Aside from the extensive steak menu, there are some superb seafood dishes and vegetarian options. My partner selected the seafood assiette, an exquisite plate of fresh seafood including Moreton bay bugs, grilled prawns, seared scallops, crisp calamari and oysters. Some tasty sides of sautéed spinach and roasted Portobello mushrooms proved to be the perfect accompaniments.
Last, but certainly not least we fought over a homemade apple & pear pie with rhubarb compote and ice cream.
