Over 430,000 Australians are treated for skin cancer each year – that’s over 1,000 people every single day! Tragically over 1,700 Australians die from skin cancer, 343 in Victoria alone, the vast majority from melanoma, which is more than Victoria’s yearly road toll and the second biggest killer of young people in their 20’s, second only to motor collisions.
Melanoma is the most aggressive but least common form of skin cancer, although it is becoming more prevalent and the rate of incidence is increasing faster than any other form of cancer.
These facts and figures aren’t intended to paralyse you with fear but to inform and educate about the vital importance of EARLY DETECTION which is the fundamental message behind March for Melanoma to be held at Waterfront City mid month.
Taking part in March for Melanoma is a great way to support the cause while enjoying a fabulous afternoon on the spectacular Docklands waterfront as you take part in the 4km walk. March for Melanoma encourages participants to join with friends or family to remember those who have lost their lives to this terrible disease or a way for you to show your support to Melanoma survivors.
After the walk, stick around for the free MelaNOmore music concert, a special tribute to Eva Cassidy, singer / songwriter who lost her battle with Melanoma at just 33. Getting the party started will be Brodie Young and performing Eva’s music will be Marijana from Idol and Rhiannon Bahree and her band.
Get out, have fun, enjoy the views and do something special to remember or to touch the lives of others affected by this very present disease – it affects us all.
