Late in 2009 the Docklands Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Kangan Batman TAFE Automotive Centre for Excellence to host a fabulous tribute and inspiring event honouring Australian motor racing great, Sir Jack Brabham, highlighting his tremendous career spanning over 50 years.
Mr Tony Morrissey as MC for the evening, recounted many of the stories from the glory days of Sir Jack’s world racing reign, including the Brabham’s talented motor racing bloodline with Sir Jack’s son, racing champion, Geoff Brabham and Geoff’s son Matthew also in attendance. Matthew was selected to represent the Confederation of Australian Motorsports' (CAMS) Rising Star Program in 2010 and is sponsored by the Kangan Batman Motorsports department.
Although Matthew is only 15 years of age, he is fast tracking his own motor racing career with wins already under his belt and hopefully many more to come as he contests the Australian Formula Ford Championship for the first time in 2010.
Despite his 83 years, Sir Jack is as quick as he was at the height of his racing career keeping guests thoroughly engrossed as he answered audience questions about his 50 years in motor racing and manufacturing including his three world championships. It was particularly engaging to hear Sir Jack speak of his support for Matthew’s future in competitive sport and strong belief that yet another Brabham will make their mark in Australian motor sports.
Congratulations also go to event hosts, Docklands Chamber of Commerce and Kangan Batman TAFE ACE for giving Docklands businesses and organisations the opportunity to mix in the presence of greatness, and for generously allowing fellow guests to leave with a shmick ACE compendium and priceless autographed poster of all three generations of Australian motor racing royalty!
