Ride the Worlds Melbourne - Road Conditions Affect Docklands

Ride the Worlds is an opportunity to get into the spirit of the up-coming 2010 UCI World Road Cycling Championships. It is a 21km family ride over Bolte Bridge and through the city celebrating this highly acclaimed international event.

The event starts at 8.00am from Pearl River Road, Docklands and finishes at Waterfront City piazza. A special kiddie\'s ride will also take place along NewQuay Promenade and the precinct will be busy with cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Participants for the most part will ride to normal road conditions and will obey traffic signals. However it is important to note the following for Docklands residents and businesses.

Pearl River Road and Docklands Drive west of Pearl River Road are to be used to assemble the riders. A slip lane will allow parking in the public car park at the top of Pearl River Road opposite the Ice House and access to Costco will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian access to the front of the Ice House will also be maintained at Observation Drive. Drivers should use
Footscray Road, Waterfront Way and Observation Drive to access these areas.

Participants will finish the ride in Doepel Way at the promenade and make their way back to the piazza at Waterfront City. This will result in Docklands Drive being busy with cyclists between 8.40am and 10.30am and drivers are asked to exercise patience in entering and leaving the precinct.

Harbour Esplanade will be open in both directions, however drivers should note that cyclists will be making a right-hand turn from Latrobe Street and then turn left into Docklands Drive, following traffic signals. Be aware that current works in Harbour Esplanade may make access busier than normal on a Sunday morning.
