Docklands Locals Needed for the Relay for Life

Cancer Council Victoria is calling on Docklands locals to support the hundreds of residents diagnosed with cancer this year by taking a lead role in the upcoming Melbourne City Relay For Life.

As Relay For Life team captains, volunteers will be asked to rally a group of friends and family to participate in the overnight event, scheduled for 5th and 6th of December 2009.

Campbell Maffett, Relay For Life Volunteer Committee Chair -manager, said Cancer Council’s Relay For Life empowers every local resident to fight back against cancer.

“One in two Victorians will be diagnosed with cancer by age 85, so we all have a reason to help fight the disease,”
Mr Maffett said.

Melbourne City Relay For Life is suitable for everyone, and is an opportunity for us to band together and celebrate with cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer,”
he said.

Melbourne City Relay For Life will see teams of locals, businesses and corporations taking turns to walk or run through the night to raise funds. The money raised will fund life-saving cancer research, prevention programs to help Melbourne residents reduce their cancer risk, and provide support services for people facing cancer.

Melbourne City Relay For Life will commence with a Survivors and Carers Walk at 4.00pm on the 5th of December. The event will feature special ceremonies, entertainment and festivities and continues through the night until.

10am on December 6th.
