Anyone For Lawn Bowls?

Are there any Docklands “wannabee” lawn bowlers out there?

Docklands’ residents are a broad mix of young workers and liberated empty-nesters, making new friends and enjoying the vibrant lifestyle offered by Docklands and inner Melbourne. Here’s another one for your list. If you’ve seen “Crackerjack” or watched “Jack High” on T.V. and thought lawn bowls looks like fun, well it is.

Our near neighbours in Albert Park have a magnificent Bowling Club set in the beautiful heritage-listed St.Vincent Gardens. It has a mixed membership demographic and welcomes both new members and casual barefoot bowlers.

The Club draws its members from Albert Park and the surrounding suburbs and last season its Ladies Champion, Polly Mansell, was in fact a Docklands resident.

Forget any stereotype images of lily-white bowling uniforms and strict rules and regulations. Modern day lawn bowls is for both the young and young-at-heart.

Barefoot bowls is just $20 for two hours and the Club is fully licensed, so why not go down with a group of friends for a couple of hours of great outdoor fun. One easy way to get there is to catch the No.96 tram from outside Southern Cross Station to Albert Park Station and the Club is then just a few minutes walk away.

Who knows, we might produce another Docklands’ champion to follow Polly on the Albert Park Honour Board.
